The traditional New Year’s Eve Concert returns, an unmissable fixture that continues to draw an increasingly loyal audience from across the region. Once again, Teatro Verdi stands at the heart of the city’s festive season, and this year’s celebration features a parade of outstanding vocal stars led by Enrico Calesso: international diva Jessica Pratt, tenor Marco Ciaponi and baritone Giorgio Caoduro. The programme features symphonies, choruses, arias and duets by Rossini, Donizetti, Bellini, Verdi, Leoncavallo, Puccini, Offenbach and Lehár.
At the height of a season that has opened under the most favourable auspices – from an increase of over 120 opera and ballet subscriptions, to sold-out symphonic events, and the critical and public acclaim for the double debut of veteran director Pier Luigi Pizzi with Le nozze di Figaro and Il barbiere di Siviglia – comes one of the most eagerly awaited events in the region: the New Year’s Eve Concert, which from 6.00 pm on 31 December will lead the audience towards the traditional final toast offered by the Theatre. Under the baton of Enrico Calesso, a succession of leading operatic voices will take the stage at the Teatro Verdi, from the radiant Jessica Pratt to the outstanding Marco Ciaponi and Trieste’s internationally acclaimed baritone, Giorgio Caoduro – all artists long cherished by the Theatre’s audience.
The lively programme features arias, duets, symphonies and choruses, opening with a substantial bel canto first section devoted to Rossini, with a strong presence of Donizetti, followed by Bellini, then moving forward chronologically through Verdi, Leoncavallo, and Puccini, before concluding on a cheerful note with a tribute to Trieste’s operetta tradition, featuring works by Offenbach and Lehár.
Only a few tickets remain for an event that has now truly won the affection of Teatro Verdi audiences from Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and, of course, throughout Friuli Venezia Giulia, becoming a moment of shared celebration that transcends borders and brings together music lovers and the wider public alike. For the final toast, the Theatre warmly thanks the winery Gigante Adriano of Corno di Rosazzo – Colli Orientali del Friuli Venezia Giulia – for its support.
