On stage from the 23rd to the 27th of July, the operetta tradition

Trieste, 20th of July 2021: in the new production of the Fondazione Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi di Trieste, The Merry Widow, an operetta by Franz Lehár, returns to the stage, with the first performance on the 23rd of July and reruns on the 24th, 25th and 27th of July. A title that is well loved and has a long, historical tradition with Trieste, between individual performances and the International Operetta Festival.
The Conductor is Christopher Franklin, Director Oscar Cecchi, sets by Paolo Vitale, choreography by Serhiy Nayenko, Chorus Director Francesca Tosi. Orchestra, Chorus and technicians of the Fondazione Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi di Trieste, with the participation of the corps de ballet of the Lviv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre.

The cast: on the stage Valentina Mastrangelo will be Hanna Glawari, Gianluca Terranova will be Danilo Danilowitsch, Giulia Della Peruta (Valencienne), Oreste Cosimo (Camille De Rossillon), Andrea Binetti (Njegus), Clemente Antonio Daliotti (Barone Mirko Zeta), Andrea Schifaudo, (Raoul De Saint-Brioche), Filippo Fontana (Visconte Cascada), Marzia Postogna (Praskowia), Gianluca Sorrentino (Bogdanowitsch), Federica Giansanti (Sylviane), Alessandro Busi (Kromov), Paola Francesca Natale (Olga) and Luca Gallo (Pritschitsch). Solo dancer Cler Bosco.
Valentina Mastrangelo debuted in 2008 with the role of Scintilla in La contadina astuta, in her various successes at the Teatro Regio di Torino she was Musetta in La Bohème, at the Dubai Opera she was Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, at the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. Moreover, at the Teatro Verdi di Trieste in Evgenij Onegin she played the role of Tat’jana, Bettina in Poverty and Nobility at the Carlo Felice di Genova, along with other performances in various theatres. She also holds numerous titles at prestigious international competitions.
Gianluca Terranova, after his debut in Rome in The Barber of Seville, has successfully performed in Madame Butterfly (Pinkerton) and Nabucco (Ismaele) at the Teatri Del Circuito Lirico Lombardo; Les contes d’Hoffmann at the Comunale di Treviso. He is the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto at the Arena di Verona and at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and has debuted at the Teatro alla Scala di Milano and at the Los Angeles Opera. His list of roles is indeed extensive. He also starred as a lead actor in “Caruso, La voce dell’amore”, a Rai film, which was highly praised, and which made Gianluca Terranova one of the most internationally beloved tenors.

The Verdi and The Merry Widow: The opera, between festivals and individual performances, has been staged at the Verdi 74 times, in various years: 1971, 1972, 1979, 1980, 1988, 1990, 1997, 2001, 2005, 2009 and 2012.

Dates: the first performance is on the 23rd of July7.30 PM, with reruns on the 24th of July at 7.30 PM, the 25th of July at 8 PM and the 27th of July at 7.30 PM.

Safety Measures: there is a fixed limit of 500 spectators. The use of an ffp2 or ffp3 mask is required for everyone. Temperature checks at the entrance are to be expected.

Tickets: The box office is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 9 AM to 4 PM. Sunday from 9 AM to 1:30 PM. Monday and holidays closed. You may also contact us by email at
